Yosemite Winter Recreation

Winter Activities

Although much of Yosemite Park closes due to weather conditions during the winter, Yosemite Valley stays open year round. The park offers many outdoor activities and fun for the whole family.

Badger Pass Ski Area

Badger Pass is California’s oldest operating ski area and is the center of Yosemite’s ski and snowboarding activity during the winter months. It is located one-hour from Yosemite Valley on the Glacier Point Road and is 7,200 ft. in elevation. There are 10 runs, 3 lifts, downhill and cross-country ski schools, ski rentals and a day lodge. Cross-country skiers will find groomed and ungroomed trails that originate at the ski lodge. There are groomed tracks all the way to Glacier Point. Snowshoes are welcome to enjoy the miles of trails provided. Wilderness permits are required for any overnight stays and can be obtained at the Badger Pass A-Frame. Badger Pass also offers snow tubing. Call 209-372-1000 for conditions.

Ranger Snowshoe Walks

Daily ranger snowshoe walks begin mid-December, conditions permitting. Enter the beautiful world of Yosemite in winter. Join an NPS ranger and expert naturalist on a two-hour walk. This walk is moderate to strenuous and not recommended for children under 10 yrs. Wear warm clothing and boots. Snowshoes provided for a suggested donation.

Ice Skating Rink

An ice skating rink is located at Curry Village. Skates are available for rental. This activity provides hours of fun for the whole family. Hours vary so be sure to check with the park for times.

Please note that dates for all winter activities vary and are offered weather permitting. Check with the park for conditions.
